Gunday (English: Outlaws or Goons) is an Indian action crime thriller film written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film featured Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irfan Khan in pivotal roles. The film, starts off in the 1970s, with a young Bikram and Bala, who live on the wrong side of the law, becoming gun carriers and coal bandits. They ultimately grow up to become the most powerful goons of Calcutta. The film released on 14 February 2014.
The film also released in Bengali with a full Bengali soundtrack also composed by Sohail Sen. Though, in some of the Bengali songs, the singers will differ from the original. This will also be the first Indian film to have its trailer premier at the Dubai International Film Festival.
The film opens up from the historic partition of Bangladesh. Starving, two kids get food and work for a man who tells them to smuggle guns to other men. He cares for them until one day the man that they give guns to tells him to leave one of the two boys behind to work as his child sex slave. He says, otherwise he'll take his daughter to work for him. Bikram, one of the kids, hears this and tells the man that he'll stay behind. Bala, the other boy, comes back for Bikram and kills the man. The two boys then run away. They arrive inKolkata by train and start their livelihood by working in a small restaurant. Bala gets into a fight with the owner who slaps him and calls him a refugee. They start looting trains of coal and selling coal in market at lower price.
As they grow up, Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) have started looting whole trains. But their hearts always yearn for their own identity in India. They provide work and help to the poor, thus earning the name Robin Hood. A.C.P. Satyajeet Sarkar (Irfan Khan), is then called to Calcutta to catch Bikram and Bala. Nandita (Priyanka Chopra), a cabaret dancer, enters the boys' lives and both Bikram and Bala fall in love with her. They decide that whomever she loves will marry her. Nandita calls them to a theater, but Bala gets into a quarrel with a person over a comment made about her and subsequently kills the man. Bikram tells Bala to run away for now so that he can be saved and promises him he won’t meet Nandita till he comes back. But Nandita tells Bikram she is in love with him and if he won't come on Durga Puja she won't see him her whole life. Bikram breaks his friendship promise with Bala to meet Nandita. He comes to the Durga Puja, where Bala finds that Bikram betrayed him. In a rage he shoots at Bikram, but misses and hits Nandita instead. She is hospitalised but survives. The two friends become enemies for Nandita. At the end, it's revealed that Nandita is a police inspector and Satyajeet and Nandita shoot Bikram and Bala dead. the end.
